BALANCE CAMPAIGN

BALANCE CAMPAIGN

Balance Campaign is a Washington D.C.-based contemporary ensemble passionate about commissioning and premiering new works. Currently in their second season, the group has been in residence at UMBC and is currently ensemble-in-residence with District New Music Coalition. With DNMC, they will perform works by local, living composers on a series of concerts in the D.C. metro area to facilitate a connection between audiences, musicians, institutions, and composers within the community.

Their program will feature:
• Mirage by Shulamit Ran
• Lonely Lake by Margaret Brouwer
• A new work by Logan Perkins (UMBC student)
• A new work by Collin David (UMBC student)
• wissahickon poeTrees by Jennifer Higdon

Currently collaborating with Fordham University professor, composer, and Maryland native, Nathan Lincoln de Cusatis, the ensemble is premiering a new composition in fall 2019 at Fordham University during their northeast tour. They are also working closely with Virginia-based composer, Lexi Bryant-Tavani, on a commission to be premiered in fall 2020.

In addition, the 2018–19 season includes a return to UMBC with an all-female program and debut performance of two student compositions. Other season highlights include their appearance on “Off the Beaten Path Music Series” at the University of the District of Columbia, showcasing works by international and immigrant composers. They will also be performing Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire, Op. 21 on the “In the Stacks Series” at George Peabody Library in Baltimore.

Admission is free.
