Tours and talks about the Peale's historic gas lights and gardens

Help us celebrate the founding of the Peale, opened as a Museum and Gallery of Fine Art by artist Rembrandt Peale on August 15, 1814, with 5 days of tours, talks, film, silhouette cutting, song, storytelling, poetry, garden parties, a makers’ market, food, drink and more from August 15-19, 2018!

Day 1: Wednesday, August 15

11am-12pm: Tours and talks on the restoration and recreation of the Peale’s historic gas lights inside the Peale and on its grounds, by BGE gas light engineers and historians.

12-1:30pm: Lunchtime talk about the renovation of the Peale’s Pollinator Garden by land artist, Ashley Kidner. Bring your brown bag lunch and join us under the magnolia tree!

6-7pm: Silhouette cutting by Lauren Muney. Discover the historic artform and its connection to the Peales from a contemporary practitioner. Take home a silhouette cut by hand!

8-9pm: A Cappella at the Peale. Enjoy a free a cappella gospel concert by Bleu Waters in what has been called the best acoustic space in Baltimore – Rembrandt Peale’s studio gallery.

Day 2: Thursday, August 16

11am-6pm: Tour the Peale and learn more about it as a venue for your exhibitions, performances, workshops, lectures, and events. Drop in or book a time to discuss your proposals.

Day 3: Friday, August 17

12-1:30pm: Lunchtime storytelling with Nate Couser. Bring your brownbag lunch and join the host of the Artist Exchange Radio Show for a live recording of authentic Be Here: Baltimore stories of the city.

Day 4: Saturday, August 18

2-4pm: Before Hollywood: Philadelphia and the Birth of the Movies film screening and panel discussion with the director, Andrew Ferrett, Carrie Rickey (co-producer) and Nathaniel Popkin (author featured in the film). Watch the 1-hour film and learn about the role the Peales played in developing and popularizing early cinematic experiences.

Day 5: Sunday, August 19

9am-3pm: Makers’ Market. Take home the best of Baltimore with locally produced art and wearables.

6-8pm (doors open at 5:30 pm): Words, Wine & Wings “4” Poetry Show.

Hosted by award-winning Baltimore poet Cherrie Amour, this fourth show

in the series features five diverse emerging and established poets from Baltimore and Baltimore-area who will share their works.
