On view: June 1 – 23
Reception: Fri, June 1 | 6 – 8pm | FREE
Gallery Talk: Sat, June 23 | 6:30 – 7:30pm | FREE

Cuban-born painter Osvaldo Mesa explores influences of Baroque painting, Abstraction, fetish objects, and forms found in nature. The result is a strong mix of Surrealism and Latin American Baroque aesthetics that is both completely mysterious and unique.

Mesa is an artist, and for nearly 20 years, a full-time Assistant Professor in Art, Design, and Interactive Media at the Community College of Baltimore County. He earned his MFA in 1985 from the Mount Royal School of Art at the Maryland Institute College of Art, and his BA from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. His work has been reviewed in the Washington Post, The Baltimore, Sun, The New Art Examiner, and was included in the 1996 book Santaria Aesthetics in Contemporary Latin Art (Smithsonian Press). In 2008 he was awarded a grant from the Maryland State Art Council. His selected exhibitions include the Hillyer Art Center in Washington, DC, El Museo Del Barrio in New York, NY, The Maryland Art Place in Baltimore, and The Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, Illinois. This is Mesa’s first solo exhibition at Creative Alliance, and the artist will give a free gallery talk on the closing day, Saturday, June 23rd at 6:30pm.
