Back by popular demand, Mountainfilm on Tour will return to Baltimore on April 27-28, 2018, at the Parkway Theatre and Baltimore School for the Arts. Mountainfilm on Tour brings a selection of culturally rich, adventure-packed, and incredibly inspiring documentary films curated from the Mountainfilm Festival held every Memorial Day weekend in Telluride, Colorado. Generously sponsored by the Saul Zaentz Charitable Foundation, the weekend will Include two evenings of free screenings open to the general public, as well as three educational outreach events.

On Friday, April 27, at 7 pm, there will be a screening of No Man’s Land at the Parkway Theatre. No Man’s Land provides a detailed, on-the-ground account of the 2016 standoff between protestors occupying Oregon’s Malheur National Wildlife Refuge and federal authorities. Director David Byars will be present and will host a Q and A after the film screening.

On Saturday, April 28, at 6:30pm, there will be a screening of documentary shorts at Baltimore School for the Arts. This carefully curated selection of fast-paced films touches on themes of the environment, the outdoors, science, and culture. Chocolate Spokes, which tells the story of an African-American bicycle shop owner in Denver, will be included in the screening. Gregory Crichlow, the subject of the documentary, will be present and host a Q and A with the audience.

Mountainfilm on Tour is also dedicated to educating and inspiring beyond theatre audiences, when possible. Friday morning, they will screen a selection of documentary shorts at the Baltimore Lab School. Coffin Nachtmahr, Lab School alumnus and subject of the film “Throw” which was part of the 2016 Mountainfilm Festival, will speak to the students. Friday afternoon, Byars will host a masterclass with undergraduate film students from Johns Hopkins University from 2 to 3:30 pm. Byars and Crichlow will co-host a masterclass for film students from the Baltimore School for the Arts, Johns Hopkins University, and MICA from 10 to 11:30 am on Saturday morning.

The festival is co-presented by the Baltimore School for the Arts, the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance, Johns Hopkins University, MICA, and the Parkway Theatre. Mountainfilm Festival

Mountainfilm began in 1979 and is one of America’s longest-running film festivals. The festival is best described by one word: inspiring. In addition to screening leading independent documentary films from around the world, the festival includes a full-day symposium on a contemporary issues, art and photography exhibits, early morning coffee talks, outdoor programs, a book-signing party, an ice cream social, student programs and a closing picnic/awards ceremony. Presentations and panels are scheduled throughout the weekend event with a wide diversity of special guests, ranging from artists to adventurers and academics to activists.
