The House Beautiful: Havana Living Today: Cuban Home Style Now

Evergreen Museum & Library's annual spring lecture series, The House Beautiful, presents a trio of illustrated talks by notable experts and authors in the fields of architecture, artistic design and decorative arts.

The 2018 series concludes on Wednesday, May 2, with a talk by Hermes Mallea, AIA. Mallea will present descriptions and photographs from his lates book, Havana Living Today: Cuban Home Style Now. The book depicts the Havana Mallea knows—a vibrant, creative, forward-looking city that is light years removed from the cliched images of dilapidated palazzos and 1950's-era cars so prevalent in tourism magazines. Each interior asserts the homeowners' personality, some presenting family continuity that survived the Cuban Revolution, others reflecting recent reforms that legalized real estate transactions and allow new entrepreneurial activities. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing.

Talks are at 6:30 p.m. in the Bakst Theatre with a book signing and reception to follow in the Far East Room. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing.

*Each lecture fulfills 1 Learning Unit of AIA Continuing Education Credit.
