Baltimore Floatilla

Baltimore Floatilla

Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore invites paddlers to show their love of the Harbor at this year’s Baltimore Floatilla on June 9th from 7:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. This year, Waterfront Partnership aims to raise $10,000 through a new peer-to-peer platform where paddling groups and individuals compete to raise funds for the Healthy Harbor Initiative. Those funds provide Inner Harbor field trips for City schools, Alley Makeovers in Baltimore communities and trash removal via Mr. Trash Wheel and Professor Trash Wheel.

Ultimate Watersports will, once again, manage water safety and DJ Jon Boesche will be spinning tunes aboard a Chesapeake Marine boat. Representatives from Waterfront Partnership, Blue Water Baltimore and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation will share their own Harbor Love stories and celebrate the importance of clean and accessible urban waterways.

Experienced paddlers will launch their kayaks, canoes and standup paddle boards from the Canton Waterfront Park, located at 3001 Boston St., beginning at 8:00 a.m., paddle to the Inner Harbor and rally by the U.S.S. Constellation. Then, paddlers will return to Canton Waterfront Park for the MOM’s Organic Market After Party featuring food from The Smoking Swine, ice cream and music.

Following this year’s theme of “Harbor Love,” paddlers are being asked to decorate their boats, boards and themselves. That could mean dressing up as a blue crab, Mr. Trash Wheel, the Domino Sugar sign or anything else that shows one’s love for the waterfront. Prizes will be given for the best expressions of Harbor Love.

Registration includes a safe, fun and supervised paddle and rally, Floatilla commemorative t-shirt, emergency whistle and lunch. Participants with previous paddling experience will be able to reserve on-site kayaks with Ultimate Watersports for an additional fee. Registration is open March 7th at BaltimoreFloatilla.com until June 4th or when 500 spots are filled.
