Brown Bag Lunch & Learn: A History of the Roger B. Taney House and the African American Community of Frederick, Maryland

“If Old Judge Taney Should Rise From the Dead:” A History of the Roger B. Taney House and the African-American Community of Frederick, Maryland
Presented by: Tracee Haupt, University of Maryland, College Park, Lord Baltimore Fellow

Originally built on the rural outskirts of Frederick in 1799, by a perverse accident of the history the house once owned by Chief Justice Taney later came to be situated where one would least expect to find it—in the heart the city’s African-American community. Lord Baltimore Fellow, Tracee Haupt will examine the historical interpretation of Taney’s legacy at the house museum and its impact on the community.
