The Mail Order Bride

The Mail Order Bride

The Mail Order Bride by Charles Mee
Thursday, April 27 – Sunday, May 7
UMBC Proscenium Theatre

Directed by Eve Muson

Inspired by Molière’s School for Wives, The Mail Order Bride is an outrageous comedy-with-music set in contemporary New York City. A wealthy widower orders up a young Asian bride for special delivery, much to the horror of his sister, his two daughters, and even his personal trainers. They ask him: does he think he can just buy a bride? And he asks them: do they think it would be better if he were just to rent one? His wedding plans run amok when the bride reveals she has a mind, and a heart, of her own. As the cast dances away to classic disco and recent hip-hop hits, Mee offers up observations on marriage, love, race, aging, and identity.
