Arena Players Gallery And Exhibition Space

The Arena Players Gallery & Exhibition Space welcomes submissions from visual artists based in the Baltimore, MD metropolitan area who self-identify as African American or black for their upcoming show: Visions of A Raisin in the Sun.

We are seeking artwork that is inspired by the play. Work should directly reflect the themes and characters within the play and can also make observations or provide commentary on the current state of African Americans since the Civil Rights Movement.

Lorraine Hansberry’s seminal play was the first by an African American woman to appear on Broadway in 1959. It has been reimagined as a film two times and tells the story of a Southside Chicago family who receives an opportunity to makes it out of the tenements in the form of a $10,000 insurance check.

Please send an email to the curator, Alexis Skinner, with an image of your work, dimensions, and a title by Tuesday, September 18th, 2018. Send emails to [email protected]. Artists may submit up to five (5) images. There is no guarantee that all works will make the exhibit. Works in progress will also be considered provided they are complete, dry, and ready to hang by September 24th.

Visions of A Raisin in the Sun opens on Saturday, September 29th. There will be an opening event from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM.
