Vintage Gas Light Tours at the Peale

For a limited time, take a special tour of the historic Peale Center, including vintage gas lights and our own “Magic Ring of Fire,” as demonstrated by Rembrandt Peale in 1816!

Tours last approximately 45 minutes and are available 19 January – 7 March 2018:

Wednesdays and Fridays at noon and 5pm;

Sundays at 11am, noon, and 1pm.

The tours are free for GBCA members or with your donation to the Peale in any amount. Reservations are required using the form below. Don’t see a date you are available? Contact us to arrange another time.

In reconstruction-era Baltimore, the Colored School system was founded to provide public education for African Americans in the City. The historic Peale Museum building, also Baltimore’s first City Hall, housed Male and Female Colored School Number One. In 1882, a two-year secondary school program was added to the curriculum, making Colored School Number One the first public high school for African Americans in the state.
