Love Is A Blue Tick Hound is a collection of four one-acts, three of which have received New York premieres, and all of which have won multiple festivals throughout the U.S. and Canada. Rapid Lemon Productions presents the regional premiere, as part of the 2018 Women’s Voices Theater Festival.
With stories as our guide, young actors utilize narrative structure as a story map for dramatic journey. Identifying key elements of each tale, bringing characters to life, and using the conflicts and themes for independent and group creation, each class features a new tale to tackle! Using all elements of the performing arts from dance, music, drama, and design, this class excites imaginations. The final class Story Explorers share highlights of their travels for family and friends. This session—Character Circus: Favorite characters collide in this one-of-a-kind circus!

We celebrate our own artistic voices and put thought into action as students work as an ensemble to create an original play. Each week features a new part of the creative process and theatrical occupation to experiment with. Students work to create elements that support their storytelling and ultimately perform original pieces showcasing fun genres. This session—Spy Fiction: We are on a mission to create the ultimate play full of props and sound design!

As we grow in our artistry, we learn what excites us most and we identify where we need more practice. Use the Theatre Makers series to do just that! Try on different theatrical hats as each class provides a sampler approach to a theatrical skill set providing opportunities to grow passion for the creative process. Final class culminates in a sharing of work for family and friends. This session—Physical Comedy: Apply the actor’s tools to the world of comedy. From slapstick and clowning to stand-up and improvisation, learn and finesse how to focus the funny.

This five week class invites students to isolate, explore, and integrate each fundamental tool in the actor’s instrument to create dynamic characters. Activate the body, exercise the voice, engage the mind and release your imagination. Each class allows time for the actor’s to explore these tools and then integrate them in the context of story and text. Students learn to use themselves in new and exciting ways as they segue their own stories into workable text to practice sound text analysis strategies.

Learn the basic skills of Improvisational Theater from Michael Harris, the Artistic Director of Baltimore Improv Group, including universal skills of listening, agreement, immediacy…and fun! The focus of this class is to develop the confidence to step on stage without advance planning and to learn how to trust your scene partner and yourself. We will apply basic improvisation techniques to a style called Short Form.
Exploring universal themes of identity, dreams and family, REBELS ON POINTE is the first-ever documentary film celebrating the world famous Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo. The notorious all-male, drag ballet company was founded over 40 years ago in New York City on the heels of the Stonewall riots, and has a passionate cult following around the world. The film juxtaposes intimate behind-the-scenes access, rich archives and history, engaging character driven stories, and dance performances shot in North America, Europe and Japan.
Mwenso & The Shakes are an irrepressible musical force- part Sun Ra, James Brown, Kid Creole, Fats Wallers, and something alien altogether. Led by Sierra Leone born, London-raised, and New York-based front man and ring leader, Michael Mwenso, who the New York Times calls “a fervid vocalist and full-bore entertainer”, Mwenso & The Shakes take a past meets future meets distant future approach to jazz. As Mwenso states, “You’re getting a generation of holistic musicians who love Louis Armstrong just as much as Woody Shaw, Sidney Bechet as much as Ornette Coleman.
