Which School of Music student will be the next featured soloist with the UMD Symphony Orchestra? In the preliminary round of the annual UMSO Concerto Competition, students perform excerpts of a concerto or concert piece for an independent jury panel. A select number of competitors are advanced to the final round where a winner, runner-up and second runner-up are announced.
Beau Willimon, the mind behind ruthless Senator (now President) Frank Underwood, will speak about filmmaking and issues of power and faith in "House of Cards," the award-winning political drama. As creator and executive producer (and showrunner) of the Netflix series, Willimon has creative control of all aspects of the show. He has also written some celebrated episodes.

James Undercofler, Artistic Director of the National Orchestral Institute at the University of Maryland and former President of the Philadelphia Orchestra walks you through the thorny world of negotiating contracts, dealing with unions, and how to be your own best advocate. Don’t lose after you’ve won!
Deep Vision Dance Company holds open company classes in collaboration with Towson University's Community Dance program. Modern classes are taught at an intermeadiate level by company director and company members. Classes are influenced by Horton, Graham, and Release technique; Bartenieff Fundamentals; and Laban Movement Analysis.
Classes can be paid for on a drop in basis via cash, check, or credit card. Class cards are also available for purchase in studio. $14 drop in.
This introductory course on character development will teach actors how to create clear and dynamic characters through understanding the importance and complexity of character motivation, playing strong objectives, and script analysis. Actors will work with a variety of texts and exercises to apply learned techniques.

Mando for Kids promotes and teaches classical mandolin to young students in the Baltimore area - it’s the only program of its kind in the United States! It was started by a group within the Baltimore Mandolin Orchestra and continues under the direction of Laura Norris, a Classical Mandolin Society fellow, member of the Baltimore Mandolin Orchestra and Baltimore Mandolin Quartet.
The Baltimore Improv Group has improv comedy shows every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7, 8 & 9 p.m. All Thursday shows are free. Friday and Saturday shows are $10.
Improv comedy shows are made up entirely on the spot using audience suggestions! No two shows are alike!
