The Baltimore Regional Office of Vocational Rehabilitation is now compensating disabled veterans while they train at our non-profit Therapeutic Alternatives of Maryland (TALMAR’s) Breaking New Ground program. Veterans looking for a path to employment can contact their nearest vocational rehabilitation counselor to gain full admittance into our program, using Chapter 31 benefits. Veterans can take this training at no out-of-pocket costs and receive paid compensation throughout the program’s duration.

Join us for live performances, community discussions, films, and crafts that reflect on, and honor, the civil rights leader. The Celebration includes the musical concert, “Man of Peace: The 50th Anniversary of the Assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr.” featuring choral presentations and spoken texts from Martin Luther King, Jr. set to chamber music written by music composer Benny Russell and performed by Peabody's Tuned In Orchestra.

Anthea Butler, Ph.D., associate professor of religious studies and Africana studies at the University of Pennsylvania, will speak at Loyola University Maryland’s annual Martin Luther King, Jr., Convocation on Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, at 5 p.m. in McGuire Hall. Butler will give her lecture, "From Selma to Charlottesville: How to confront and defeat racism in perilous times." A brief vigil service for hope and renewal will follow the lecture.

HoCo Open, the Howard County Arts Council's immensely popular non-juried exhibit, is now an annual event! Artists (aged 18 years and older) who live, work, or study in Howard County are invited to bring one piece of ready-to-hang original artwork completed in the past two years to the drop-off on January 4 from 4:30–6:30pm. Artwork will be accepted for the exhibit on a first-come, first-serve basis, one piece per artist, until the gallery is full.
Everyday Relics features works by artists Charles Bowers and Pamela Crockett. Bowers creates mixed-media pigment ink transfer images, often depicting imagery of nature. Each image transfer results in a unique work of art with a distinctive textural background. Crockett, a Baltimore-based painter, creates abstract mixed-media paintings inspired by Byzantine artifacts. Her paintings incorporate embedded objects that create areas of depth and shadow within the work, encouraging the viewer to take a closer look.
Preschoolers will love this program just for them. Explore the museum’s galleries through stories, songs, crafts, and pint-size tours with a different theme each week.

The Julio Fine Arts Gallery at Loyola University Maryland presents the “2018 Faculty Biennial,” an exhibition of work by the Visual Arts Faculty in the Department of Fine Arts. Painters, sculptors, photographers, printmakers and 3D printers are showcased. Prism is a place where children can unplug from daily stresses and tune into wellbeing with classes in mindfulness, creative arts and crafts, yoga, movement, music, drama, and community projects.

Ai Weiwei: The Fake Case, shows how the government’s attempts to silence Ai Weiwei have turned him into China’s most powerful voice for free speech and human rights around the globe.
The POV Film Series features a distinguished series of independent documentaries broadcast by PBS. All POV screenings are followed by facilitated audience conversations.
Learn the basic skills of Improvisational Theater from Michael Harris, the Artistic Director of Baltimore Improv Group, including universal skills of listening, agreement, immediacy…and fun! The focus of this class is to develop the confidence to step on stage without advance planning and to learn how to trust your scene partner and yourself. We will apply basic improvisation techniques to a style called Short Form.
