The Eye of the Storm
The most powerful moments in music and life, are the special moments of vision and perspective in the midst of life's emotional turmoil. This concert delves into the heart of the storm through the "Dumka", a musical genre dedicated to emotional reflection in between bursts of energy, including works by Tchaikovsky and Rebecca Clarke and topped off with Dvorak's all time favorite piano quintet.

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s Principal cellist Dariusz Skoraczewski was presented with the prestigious Baker Artist Award, the highest recognition for artists in Maryland. As a chamber musician, he has appeared in many chamber series including the Barge Music Festival in New York City.
The UMBC Department of Music in partnership with the Piacenza Conservatory in Italy presents soprano Ana Spasić in concert. With a powerful voice, Ana Spasić communicates descriptive emotional expressions, drawing vocally in space with a sonic force derived from Italian lyric opera. With her wide range of expression, she has performed in many music festivals, from soloing at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence to singing with the European Contemporary Orchestra at the George Enescu in Bucharest.
The University Band and Community Band share an evening of traditional and contemporary wind band music. Conducted by UMD alumnus Bill Sturgis, and UMD Assistant Director of Bands, Eli R. Osterloh, this concert will be an exciting evening for the whole family! Children and adults who are thinking of starting to play an instrument are sure to be inspired.
Duo Violão Brasil is the result of guitarists Rogério Souza and Edinho Gerber's reverence for Brazilian guitar, the “violão”, and their desire to explore and expand the musical possibilities of putting two “violões" together. With repertoire from composers like Pixinguinha, Baden Powell, and Tom Jobim, the duo navigates effortlessly through the many styles of 20th century Brazilian popular music while showcasing original works and inventive arrangements.

Violinist Airi Yoshioka presents major new compositions by composer Stuart Sanders Smith: The Rivers of Maine (2015) for solo violin and Crystal Night (2014) for solo violin and percussion quartet, for which she will be joined by the University of Maryland Percussion Ensemble (Lee Hinkle, director; Jonathan Clancy; Chris Herman; Robert Shroyer).

Barber’s famous elegy, the quietly powerful and reflective Adagio for Strings is the perfect prelude for Jennifer Koh’s performance of Mackey’s Beautiful Passing, a tribute to his mother’s life and strength. The violin is once again the protagonist, this time weaving its sensuous melody as Scheherazade in Rimsky-Korsakov’s colorful portrait of a sultan’s wife, who spins tales of Arabian nights.
BALTIMORE, MD – More than 1,000 of America’s highest-ranking DanceSport athletes will compete for national championship titles in Baltimore, Mar. 31 through Apr. 2, 2017 at the 37th annual USA DANCE 2017 National DanceSport Championships, to be held at the Renaissance Harborplace Hotel and organized by USA DANCE, Inc., the National Governing Body for DanceSport in the United States.
This ode to Odell’s will feature a light-based installation that through testimonies, digital projections, and free standing sculpture illuminates the rich and complex legacy of Odell's--a club that foregrounded disco and house music in Baltimore between 1976-1992. “You’ll know if you belong.”
This series of lunchtime musings in honor of Odell’s will feature poetry readings by Janae Kelly, musical performances by Elon, and a workshop by Luce Delrie on the history of images, image literacy and visual intelligence with a focus toward paparazzi culture and romantic breakups. Together, the three of them will present a series of art works, videos and music clips exploring these topics in an informal TMZ-like presentation that encourages audience engagement and conversation.
The Hot Club of Baltimore, featuring guitarist Michael Joseph Harris, is the premier gypsy jazz group of the region specializing in the vast repertoire of vintage jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt including early swing, musette waltzes, show tunes, be bop, and French standards from the 30's and 40's. The band includes Sami Arefin on rhythm guitar, Ed Hrybyk on bass and Matt Andrews on violin. They will be joined by the beautiful young chanteuse Alexis Tantau who will beguile you with her authentic treatment of songs from Edith Piaf to Ella Fitzgerald.

We’ve added a fun new twist to brunch at Germano’s. The mimosas and bloody marys won’t be the only thing that could be bottomless at this show. Twisted Knickers Burlesque is back at Germano’s Cabaret, performing to the lively New Orleans-inspired sound of the jazz band Tongue in Cheek. Featuring burlesque performers Tapitha Kix, Mourna Handful, Cherie Sweetbottom, Tempette LaCouer and host and performer, Hot Todd Lincoln, this show will have you clapping along, hooting and hollering and cheering for more!

His name became synonymous with contemporary acoustic guitar genius long before the terms New Age, New Acoustic Music, or World Music were invented. He has the ability to make a single guitar sounds like an entire band as he brings the audience on a mesmerizing musical journey.
Concert Artists of Baltimore and the Archdiocese of Baltimore Present the third concert in Concert Artists' Maestro Series, the “St. Matthew Passion.” Bach’s powerful and stirring oratorio performed in the divine setting of the Basilica of the Assumption. Nearly three centuries after it was composed, Bach’s masterpiece continues to move audiences. Double chorus and double orchestra join forces with vocal soloists representing characters from history’s most transformative story. Tenor Matthew Hill sings the role of the Evangelist, and Cody Muller, bass, sings the role of Jesus.
