This in-class lecture demonstration by Pakistani artist, Arooj Aftab who developed a style in the early 2000s that combines Sufi-mystical poetry with the spirit of independent rock. Her music is inspired by the poetry and musicality of Rumi, Abida Parveen, and other Sufi poets as well as the reworking of classical Pakistani and North Indian forms like khayal and kafi. She says Sufi words have impacted her writing: “It is very much about the feeling that (Sufi poetry) leaves you with: calmness, peace, patience, simplicity.

Contemporary artist Nikki Painter presents a visiting artist lecture. She works primarily in mixed media drawings and her installations investigate how the environments in her drawings might exist in three-dimensional space.
EMBODY, the award-winning, mind-blowing showcase of the human voice, returns to WTMD for a second installment featuring Tuvan throat-singing stars Alash, Baltimore rapper DDm of Bond St. District, singer-songwriter/vocal trumpeter Victoria Vox, New York vocal percussionist/beatboxer pioneer D.O.A., Baltimore vocal artist Shodekeh, singer/rapper Jasmine Pope and more!
This is a vocal-only show. There are no instruments -- only the human voice.
Pop-Up! Baltimore Painted Screens: Closing Party
Friday, Oct 6th in conjuction with the Highlandtown First Friday Art Walk, The Painted Screen Society is ending it's summer long exhibition in H!ghlandtown on a high note with Billy McComiskey & Friends* playing world class Irish tunes from 7-9 pm on the sidewalk under our “Red Roof” awnings on Conkling St.
To kickoff the weekend of School 33 Art Center's Open Studiop Tour, the Youth Resiliency Institute will host a free artist reception and panel discussion on Friday, October 6th at 6pm at the Cherry Hill Community Center. Visitors will be invited to meet with Cherry Hill's artists during the reception, whose work will be activated through the construction of a Cherry Hill Mbari House that will celebrate the life of late Cherry Hill artist Angelo Dangerfield.

Baltimore's artists are opening their studios, and you're invited! School 33 Art Center's Open Studio Tour returns Saturday, October 7th and Sunday, October 8th 2017 from 10am to 6pm, with a kickoff event on Friday, October 6th. During these days, more than 130 artists throughout Baltimore City open their studios to the public. Visitors can meet artists, learn more about their process, explore their space and purchase original works of art.
In addition to the lecture I will give away free copies of my Book. Nannette's Five Steps of Promotion provide a systematic approach to publicizing the fine-art product; while showing how retail-sales tactics can link art to business, without compromising the artist's integrity.
We'll be taking over the street outside the WTMD studios and rocking out with live music from TMD favorites - The Districts, Grizfolk and Stone Senate!

Their conversations are further enriched by dialouge with Bina48’s handler and close companion Bruce Duncan.
