Kentucky native and self-taught artist, J.T. Kirkland displays his paintings that celebrate the natural forms found in wood.
“I strive to find clarity and resolution in line, color, and form, while challenging viewers’ perceptions of surface and space through simple, precise gestures on wood,” Kirkland states.
Art Maryland 2014, a premier showcase for regional artists, is a multi-media statewide juried exhibit featuring work selected from nearly 600 entries submitted by 214 artists working in a wide variety of styles and mediums . Guest juror Julia Marciari-Alexander, Executive Director of The Walters Art Museum, will offer remarks and present juror awards at a free reception November 7 from 6–8pm. Gallery hours: Mon-Fri 10am-8pm, Sat 10am-4pm, Sun 12-4pm.
The Collective Dance Company offers bi-weekly modern classes that are open to the public and geared toward the intermediate/advanced level dancer. Sunday morning classes are taught by a rotating schedule of guest teachers. Tuesday evening classes are taught by a rotating schedule of Collective members. Classes are primarily offered in modern/contemporary dance. The first Tuesday of every month, a speciality class is offered in a different style or genre of dance. More than 250 of the nation’s finest artisans will display and sell their handcrafted work in Gaithersburg, Maryland (outside Washington, DC) at the Sugarloaf Crafts Festival, Friday, November 21, through Sunday, November 23 at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. Jury-selected artists from around the country will present their stunning array of contemporary crafts in sculpture, glass, jewelry, fashion, wood, leather, metal, furniture, home accessories, photography and fine art. Holiday shoppers can enjoy browsing and buying fine crafts and unique gifts for everyone on their holiday list.
MFA candidate McCormack, an interdisciplinary artist who works in glass and other materials, has a strong interest in kinetic and sound sculpture. He physically engages visitors through installations and sculpture. He believes that through the shared experience of art our community will better appreciate all life forms, people and ideas.

Printmaking Department Chair Jonathan Thomas took more than a year to complete his project Ten Minutes on a Foggy Night, with the exhibition sharing the same name. Working with an array of subject matter culled from found materials and utilizing chance operations throughout his process, Thomas explores the multiple and often complex roles images have in peoples’ lives and the connections they foster.

Furniture making emerged as one of Baltimore’s most significant art forms from the end of the 1700s through the first quarter of the 19th century. Cabinet shops flourished throughout the bustling port city, the fastest-growing in the country, and there was great demand for "fancy furniture" by a newly rich mercantile elite eager to furnish their Federal-style houses in the latest fashions.

The SONAR ensemble opens it's fifth season with a program inspired by youth, innocence and vitality. Play "I Spy" with David Lang in Child – an epic work inspired by the composer's childhood memories. Play Catch with Thomas Adés, where the ensemble must actually catch the clarinetist and force her to sit down! Sing campfire songs with Charles Ives and explore the miracle of childbirth with Kaija Saariaho. Also launching this season is SONAR's Project Antiphony – an exploration of new music's early roots with forward-thinking Baroque music.
Libiamo! Celebrate the holiday season with a laugh and a cry in Verdi’s masterpiece of the struggle between opulence and propriety. La Traviata is the story of ill-fated lovers Violetta and Alfredo, who meet and fall in love in high spirits but are torn apart as a result of Alfredo’s father’s misconceptions and Alfredo’s own stubbornness. Alfredo ultimately realizes his mistake too late, in one of opera’s most moving scenes. La Traviata will be presented in conjunction with BCO’s fourth annual Silent Auction.
Storytelling, spoken word, and theater performances by community members who share real stories about racism. Peabody graduate and rising star of his generation, pianist Michael Sheppard was hailed by Leon Fleisher as "a wonderful musician and a totally phenomenal pianist.” Sheppard will take the stage in this live recording session with works by Poulenc, Schumann, and Granados, as well as his own composition, Invitation to Travel.
