Carl Filipiak has earned critical acclaim as one of today’s most dynamic jazz guitarists. Jazziz Magazine has included him among a renowned list of guitar players in their nominations for “New Fusion Blood,” and JazzTimes calls him “a dazzlingly versatile guitarist.”
This five week class invites students to isolate, explore, and integrate each fundamental tool in the actor’s instrument to create dynamic characters. Activate the body, exercise the voice, engage the mind and release your imagination. Each class allows time for the actor’s to explore these tools and then integrate them in the context of story and text. Students learn to use themselves in new and exciting ways as they segue their own stories into workable text to practice sound text analysis strategies.

The Ambassadors Jazztet of The United States Field Band was developed in the legendary style of Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. It is composed of members of the Jazz Ambassadors of The United States Army Field Band, the Army's premier Touring jazz orchestra. Though the Jazztet performs traditional jazz standards, its primary focus is on new compositions by members of the group. The compositions vary greatly, sometimes paying homage to older styles and sometimes developing an entirely new sound, but always creating a vehicle for improvised solos.
Mwenso & The Shakes are an irrepressible musical force- part Sun Ra, James Brown, Kid Creole, Fats Wallers, and something alien altogether. Led by Sierra Leone born, London-raised, and New York-based front man and ring leader, Michael Mwenso, who the New York Times calls “a fervid vocalist and full-bore entertainer”, Mwenso & The Shakes take a past meets future meets distant future approach to jazz. As Mwenso states, “You’re getting a generation of holistic musicians who love Louis Armstrong just as much as Woody Shaw, Sidney Bechet as much as Ornette Coleman.
