The Michael Mayfield Legacy Concent is a charity event held to benefit the Youth Leadership Scholarship created in memory of the late Michael Mayfield. Harolded as a Youth Leader himself, Michael Mayfield embodied all of the attributes of a successful leader, i.e.. respect, compassion, intelligence, and confidence. Micheal was always willing to listen to the concerns of his peers. He was involved in the community as a mentor. He encouraged his classmates, teammates, bandmates, and brothers in arms to strive for improvement, to always put your best foot forward, never to lose sight of the mission, and to always keep God first in their lives. During his final year on earth, Michael was awared three scholarships to prominent universities for baseball and leadership. Tragically, he was unable to benfit from the experience because of a random, senseless act of violence which still plaques our communities today. Although Michael was not able to attend college, it was his dream to enroll at a university. It is in honor of his dream that the Youth Leadership Scholarship fund was created. Each year the scholarship is awarded to a deserving graduating senior from Edmondson Westside High School who plans to attend college in the fall of his or her graduating year.
