BOWLES AND HASSAN

BOWLES AND HASSAN

Doug Bowles (tenor) and Alex Hassan (Piano), two members of regularly featured act, THREE FOR A SONG appear with us to share some of the very best numbers from their Wammy (Washington Area Musicians Association) Award nominated duo CD “New Deal Rhythm" and from their upcoming CD “Wake up and Live: Songs of Gordon and Revel” as well as piano solos from several of Mr. Hassan’s more-than-16 CD albums. Bowles and Hassan will preview a few numbers from German Composers of the Golden Age of Pop as well, as they prepare for a short tour of Southern England and Northern Germany. Bowles has been lauded by luminaries such as grammy winning Michael Feinstein (“Ambassador to the American Songbook”) who described Doug as a “singer with a formidable voice.” A recent Broadway World review of his work on the Cy Walter Centennial Tribute (and corresponding CD), called him an “appealing tenor.” Doug has been described as having the perfect 1920s and 30s voice, as if it were, “coming out of an old radio.”

Alex Hassan is featured nationally and internationally as one of the world’s top interpreters of the “novelty” piano style, which was at its peak in the period between the two world wars. Mr. Hassan heads the Northern Virginia Ragtime Society, teaches Master classes on stride piano style and concertizes around the world to the delight of audiences who can’t believe all that music comes from only 2 hands. Their spectacular musicianship, combined with wry wit and comic flair provide audiences with an afternoon they won’t soon forget. The pair have appeared together on National Public Radio’s “All Things Considered” with Robert Siegel and on BBC International.
