Baltimore Chamber Jazz Society Presents the Joe Lovano Classic Quartet

The Baltimore Chamber Jazz Society concludes its 2015-2016 season at the Baltimore Museum of Art, on Sunday, May 1, 2016, at 5 p.m., with a performance by Grammy-winning saxophonist Joe Lovano and the Joe Lovano Classic Quartet. The current season marks the Society’s 25th year of bringing jazz greats to Baltimore.

The May 1st concert will be followed by a fundraiser for the non-profit Chamber Jazz Society at 7:30 p.m., in Gertrude’s, at the Baltimore Museum of Art. The reception, which requires a separate ticket, will help the Society continue to bring renowned musicians such as Lovano to Baltimore in the coming years.

In addition to a Grammy, noted saxophonist Joe Lovano has numerous accolades to his credit including multiple wins as Downbeat magazine’s Jazz Artist/Musician of the Year, Tenor Saxophonist of the Year and Album of the Year. He has released more than 20 albums on the Blue Note label, including the recent part 1 and 2 of his “Joe Lovano Quartets: Live At The Village Vanguard” on vinyl.

Performing in his Classic Quartet, Lovano explores the rich history of mainstream jazz through swing and bebop with stalwarts George Mraz on bass, Lewis Nash on drums, and Lawrence Fields on piano. An active proponent of straight-ahead jazz, Lovano drives the edges while honoring the structures. “The secret to Lovano’s success is his fearless ability to push the conceptual and thematic choices he makes in a quest for new modes of artistic expression.” (JazzTimes)

Tickets for the Joe Lovano Classic Quartet concert are $40 general admission, $38 seniors and BMA members, and $10 students. A ticket for the separate fundraiser is $75, which is tax-deductible. Tickets for both the concert and the fundraiser can be purchased in advance at http://www.baltimorechamberjazz.org, or at the door. More information is also available at (410) 385-5888 or on the BCJS page on Facebook.
