AmiciMusic presents "JEWISH JAZZ"

AmiciMusic presents "JEWISH JAZZ"

AmiciMusic presents this exciting and intimate concert highlighting the interconnections of Jazz, Classical, and Klezmer at the turn of the 20th century. Clarinetist Steve Loew and pianist/
Artistic Director Daniel Weiser will perform several Klezmer-inspired works as well as pieces by Scott Joplin, George Gershwin, Leonard Bernstein, Benny Goodman and more. Dr. Weiser will talk about the interesting symbiosis, both socially and musically, between these different idioms. Steve Loew, clarinet, spent many years as a member of the US Marine Band (the President's Own) and played for five different Presidents as a member of the White House Orchestra. A graduate of the Juilliard School of Music, Mr. Loew has also performed with the National Symphony and the New York Philharmonic. He has also collaborated with such artists as Marvin Hamlisch, Doc Severinsen, Roberta Flack, Johnny Mathis, and Meatloaf. Mr. Loew was born in Brooklyn, NY and now lives in Asheville, NC, where he is the founder of the Asheville Clarinet Quartet and the Woodsong Clarinet Choir. Daniel Weiser, pianist, has performed around the world in over 20 countries. He recently moved back to Baltimore and has started this innovative House Concert series. He earned his Doctorate in Chamber Music at Peabody and also taught at Dartmouth College, St. Paul's School, and UNC Asheville. He was the 1996 U.S. Artistic Ambassador of Music, which sent him on a two month tour through the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
