Trajectory Dance Project

TRAJECTORY DANCE PROJECT presents excerpts from two recent productions Dancing Ophelia: Dances Unveil the Women of Shakespeare, and The Jury.

Dancing Ophelia is a series of dance works inspired by the intriguing women of Shakespeare's plays. The works focus on the perspective of the bard's female characters. For instance,Desdemona exposes the terrible moment of her realization of her beloved husband's murderous intent. The work also explores the humor of Shakespeare, with works likeSomething Borrowed, inspired by Kate of Taming of the Shrew.

Through the powerful lens of movement, The Jury intersects with one of the most pressing issues of our time: the efficacy of the judicial system. In a mock jury trial, artists portray the attorneys, witnesses and defendants of a murder trial and the audience decides who is "guilty" or "not guilty."

Trajectory Dance Project is a Baltimore dance ensemble based at Coppin State University that is directed by Alice Howes and made up of professionals from the community as well as advanced CSU dance students. The work focuses on the human condition: concepts of community and isolation, social justice, and the struggle to maintain relationships despite adversity. Although completely contemporary, the work harkens back to the early days of modern dance when profound human expressivity was paramount.
