Washington, DC Jazz Artist, Charles Rahmat Woods Coming to Baltimore to Perform His Language of Birds Live Tour

In celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month, Contemporary Arts, Inc., presents The Charles Rahmat Woods Quartet. A consummate flautist and saxophonist, Charles has performed with Roy Haynes, Helen Humes, Don Cherry, Tarika Blue, Conjunto Peligro, Odean Pope’s Saxophone Choir, and Eva Cassidy, in New York, Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia Areas. Inspired by John Coltrane, Thelonius Monk, Don Cherry, Jim Pepper and Grover Washington, the quartet, grounded in Jazz and Blues, will perform music from Charles’s “Language of Birds” CD visiting a broad spectrum of genres from Swing to Latin to New Age.

The concert will be held on Saturday, April 9th, 2016 at 4 PM at the Eubie Blake National Jazz Institute and Cultural Center (847 N. Howard St., Baltimore, MD 21201). The performance will feature a stellar group of musicians: Charles Rahmat Woods on flute and saxophone, Allen Jones on drums, Jeron White on acoustic bass and Joseph Wilson on piano.

Born in Buffalo NY, Woods has appeared with his own ensembles on radio and television broadcast. His theme music has been used for the syndicated Native American cable TV show “Four Winds” and his song, “Look What You Done to Me”, was used in the major feature film “Something New” starring Sanaa Latham.

Henry Woods Troupe, Enyx 1975).

The CHARLES ‘RAHMAT’ WOODS QUARTET and its extensions have performed for numerous dignitaries and government representatives in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Inspired by John Coltrane, Thelonius Monk, Don Cherry, Jim Pepper and Grover Washington, the quartet, grounded in Jazz and Blues, will visit a broad spectrum of genres from Swing to Latin to New Age.

The concert is supported by funds from the William G. Baker Memorial Fund (creators of the bakerartistawards.org), The Citizens of Baltimore County, The MSAC Touring Artist Fund, The Maryland State Arts Council and the National Endowment For the Arts.
