Symphony Number One plays Light City Baltimore

Symphony Number One plays Light City Baltimore

Symphony Number One is thrilled to present the music of Pierre Boulez and Jonathan Russell–its 2015 Call for Scores winner–at America's first large-scale, international light festival, Light City. The orchestra is also excited to present the "astonishingly original compositional voice" of Joel Puckett, award-winning composer and faculty member at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore. Symphony Number One will perform a special arrangement of Puckett's Southern Comforts for Violin and Chamber Orchestra. Symphony Number One's concertmaster Nicholas Bentz will perform the solo.

Symphony Number One will take this opportunity to spotlight the artistic talents of 9 additional emerging composers who are writing short compositions specifically for SNO's performance at Light City. This lightning round of compositions will include musical works by Peabody Conservatory student composers Sean William Calhoun, Jonathan Hugendubler, Ben Kapilow, and Alexa Rinn, alongside Symphony Number One Inaugural Call for Scores finalists Daniel Fawcett, Paul Richards, Nicola Straffelini, Dan Vanhassel, and Ben Goldberg.
