Baltimore has a rich Civil Rights legacy dating to its earliest days up to the present. Mr. Eli Pousson is leading an effort at Baltimore Heritage to document the places and people in Baltimore City that were on the forefront of Civil Rights efforts. In partnership with the Maryland Historical Trust, National Heritage Area and Baltimore Public Schools, the project is documenting, promoting, and protecting historic places from the law office where Clarence Mitchell led the NAACP’s national lobbying to the home of the city’s first African American Councilman. Come join us and learn about the city’s Civil Rights legacy and the historic places that central to this important part of Baltimore’s heritage. If you have Civil Rights stories or history to share, Mr. Pousson is seeking information to enrich the project and welcomes your comments.

Eli Pousson started as a Field Officer at Baltimore Heritage in partnership with the National Trust for Historic Preservation in October 2009. Prior to moving to Baltimore, Eli worked for the DC Office of Historic Preservation and completed graduate work in anthropology and historic preservation at the University of Maryland College Park. Eli continues to work with the Lakeland Community Heritage Project and other heritage organizations in Prince George’s County, Maryland.
