Benny Russell is an accomplished Jazz composer and musician who toured with internationally known musician and humanitarian Harry Belafonte; led the “Next Legacy Orchestra” in New York; has written and composed numerous projects highlighting African American historical gures including Nat Turner; Langston Hughes and the Civil Rights Movement. One project titled “Spiritual Musings” in 2013 commemorated the 50 anniversary of several pivotal events. and directs the Jazz Ensemble at Harford Community College where he teaches woodwind instruments and the sought after course “Popular Music of the United States.”
