7:00 - 10:00PM: Closing Reception of 'Special Combo' (1515 Guilford Ave)
Bonnie Crawford Kotula pursues art making as analysis in an effort to experiment without hypothesis. Her methodology has developed directly out of a sensual relationship to material as well as a psuedo-scientific investigation of phenomena.
She works by collecting scraps of various non-art and fine art materials, from discarded plastic packaging to printmaking paper. These materials become the basis of playful and poetic formal arrangements as her studio practice becomes means of sorting out, both materially and conceptually. The resultant objects and installations serve as documents of this process.
Bonnie Crawford Kotula received her MFA from the University of Maryland Baltimore County in 2008 and her BA in Studio Art from the University of Maryland College Park in 2001. Her sculpture and installation has been exhibited nationally in South Carolina, California, Delaware, Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, as well as internationally in Seoul, Korea and St. Petersburg, Russia.
