Stan Killian Group w/ Todd Marcus, Jeff Reed, Eric Kennedy
Talented young tenor player and composer Killian returns to his old stomping grounds with an all-star lineup of the best of Baltimore’s jazz players with Stan Killian on tenor sax, Todd Marcus on bass clarinet, Jeff Reed on bass, and Eric Kennedy on drums. Stan Killian, a second generation jazz musician, and New York–based tenor saxophonist and composer was born and raised in Texas and began performing professionally at age 16 with his father, Joe Killian, a jazz pianist. With a saxophone spirit reminiscent of Illinois Jacquet, Arnett Cobb, and James Clay, the twenty-first-century Texas Tenor seeks to modernize this rich lineage by developing a highly personalized compositional approach coupled with a consistent group sound steeped in simpatico and interplay. In 2006, Stan Killian moved to the East Coast and immediately began working as a sideman in Baltimore and Washington D.C. Tonight he uses those relationships to bring in the best of our area’s players. Expect a night of great, fresh, straight ahead jazz. More players TBA! 8pm | $14, $12 mbrs.
