The Queen of Swing Norma Miller's 96th Birthday Celebration Fundraiser

The Queen of Swing Norma Miller's 96th Birthday Celebration Fundraiser

The Norma Miller Project Committee is planning an unforgettable celebration for Norma Miller's 96th birthday. It will consist of a weekend of festivities starting on Friday, December 4, 2015 that continues through Sunday evening, December 6, 2015 at the Turf Valley Grand Ballroom in Ellicott City Maryland.
Norma is an author, choreographer, dancer, comedian and actor whose career spans over seven decades. Discovered at the age of twelve by the Savoy Ballroom's legendary dancer Twist Mouth George, Ms. Miller has been in show business ever since.
Honored with a 2003 National Heritage Foundation Fellowship from the National Endowments of the Arts for her role in creating and continuing to preserve "the acrobatic style swing dance, known as the Lindy Hop," Ms. Miller continues to be an inspiration to all who know and love her.

Florida filmmaker John Biffar completed a 72 minute documentary in 2006, "Queen of Swing" that takes an inside look at Norma’s influence in the globalization of America's jazz culture and her and her fellow artist's role in racial integration.

Norma continues to travel throughout the year, making appearances at a number of Swing Dance festivals and Jazz events around the world. In addition to teaching master classes, Norma also performs her comedy act and screens the "Queen of Swing" documentary.

This project has been a dream of Norma’s for a while and is near and dear to her heart. Help make this dream a reality. As the only remaining original Lindy Hopper still alive today, she remains hopeful and very determined to take a group of young male and female swing dancers to Broadway to put on an extraordinary night of dance.

Norma and her team must raise $100,000 to fund this project. Norma’s brand is one of excellence, quality, and high energy. We wouldn’t expect anything less from a legend. The Norma Miller Project Committee is dedicated to helping make this dream a reality. We must educate our youth about the history of Swing dancing, which began in Harlem, NY many years ago. Swing Dance, like Jazz is one of the few African American art forms originated in the United States.

Some the proceed will benefit the Douglass High School Scholarship Fund for our youth

Please join us in our fund raising efforts. We would love for your organization to donate or sponsor an activity or event. We know that this is a worthy cause and that is why we have put together a committee of individuals from across the country to help organize this effort
