High Zero Festival

High Zero Festival

High Zero, Baltimore's world famous festival of experimental improvised music since 1999, is one of the countries most exotic and unusual musical events. Over four core dates, all new ensembles square off to make spontaneous very new music—trying to get to places that music hasn't been before. The festival features an equal mix of unusual musical personalities from Baltimore with similarly inspired artists from around the world—performing on the widest mix of invented and traditional instruments, their bodies, electronics, and anything they can think of to make very original, idiosyncratic performances. Hear why The Urbanite Magazine called High Zero "The #2 reason to live in Baltimore."

Considering found photographs with performance

Stephanie Barber’s work is philosophical, with a focus on language. Her bold ideas are often balanced by a playful humor. Saturday afternoon, she will collaborate with five High Zero musicians to compose nine vignettes, live, based on a detailed examination of nine found photographs. Barber will interject with speech, providing moments of reflection and absurdity. The musicians will react to, ignore, collaborate with, and impishly prod their fellow musicians, the photographs, and Barber’s own monologue, creating a playground of ideas that demand to be witnessed.
