ClancyWorks Dance Company and Baltimore County Public Schools Office of Dance co-present the Dance Educators Training Institute (DETI). This intensive professional development program facilitated by reputed leaders in the danced education field provides a 30-hour week of training workshops in August and a one-on-one mentorship program during the academic year. The DETI is suitable for teaching artists of in-school/after-school programs in public/private schools working throughout MD/VA/DC. Excellent opportunity for choreographers, performers, highly experienced dance educators and artists just beginning to work in education. Administrators/teachers from other educational arts disciplines are welcome.

DETI is co-directed by Founding Director, Adrienne Clancy, PhD, MFA and BCPS Dance Resource Teacher, Sonia Synkowski, MFA. DETI Co-founder Suzanne Hennaman received the NDEO 2013 Outstanding Leadership Award while Dr. Clancy was awarded the 2013 Dance Educator of the Year by the National Dance Education Organization as well as the 2014 Montgomery County Executive’s Award for Excellence in the Arts and Humanities, Education Award.

Facilitators include: Adriane Fang (MFA), Jeffery Gunshol (MFA), Rima Faber (PhD), Suzanne Hennaman, Karen Kuebler, Sonia Synkowski (MFA), and others.

Earn credits for attending DETI 2015
Continuing Professional Development Course (CPD)

This Dance Composition and Design course is an examination of the choreographic tools and processes through the development of improvisational techniques, compositional basics, the elements of compositional design, and the critical response process as well as the creation of new choreography. This course supports the mentoring of student compositions and refinement of best practices for compositional development at all instructional levels. To receive MSDE credit for attending DETI participants must register using the BCPS on-line registration system.

Credit Requirements: (1 credit, 15 hours of instruction)
Attendance to at least 15 hours of the DETI and submission of a lesson plan that demonstrates the use of dance composition and design is required. Participants respond to written reflection evaluations at the conclusion of the DETI.
