East versus West makes for a dramatic, uplifting and timeless story of ethnic understanding, leadership and love. Based on a true story, the show takes place in 1862 in Siam (now Thailand) when a widowed English schoolteacher, Anna Leonowens, and her young son arrive at the Royal Palace in Bangkok. Anna has been contracted by the King to teach his dozens of children and wives. The King is considered a barbarian by some in the West, and seeks Anna's assistance in preparing his children for the future and in changing his own image, but he soon discovers a deeper change in his own opinions and ways. With the King and Anna keeping a firm grip on their respective traditions and values, they learn together that mutual respect, human dignity and love have no political or cultural boundaries. Featuring songs loved for decades by audiences around the world, “The King and I” is a unique love story of yesterday that is still inspiring and relevant today.

Set Design by John Seeley, Vocal Direction by Greg Satorie, Orchestral Direction by Joon Choi.
Choreography by Jesse Milan, Jr. and Stacey McGhee, Assistant Director Nancy Kelso.
