REDWINE JAZZ BAND CELEBRATES MARDI GRAS

REDWINE JAZZ BAND CELEBRATES MARDI GRAS

The Redwine Jazz Band performs popular music from the early part of the twentieth century. Their goal is the promotion, perpetuation, and performance of traditional jazz. The core of the band includes Ben Redwine, world famous guitarist Tom Mitchell, and bassist John Previti. Bandleader Ben Redwine is an accomplished musician devoted to new classical music and old jazz. Ben retired from the US Naval Academy Band in 2014, and now teaches clarinet at The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. He is a Selmer Paris performing artist, and a Canyes Xilema reed performing artist. The band's guitarist, Tom Mitchell, is a hard driving swing/jazz guitar player and singer with a whimsical improvisational style. Tom performed with Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks for many years. Bassist John Previti has won a number of awards for his rare talent. These include WAMA "Wammie" awards for Musician of the Year, Instrumentalist of the Year, and Album of the Year. He was a long-time member of Danny Gatton's band. Tonight, they will be joined by the fabulous trumpeter, Vince McCool, for a special Mardi Gras celebration.
