STAR Sharing Treatment and Autism Resources

This presentation will help family members, friends and teachers develop a greater understanding of the core challenges that impact social development of individuals with ASD, and will identify the essential socail skills commponents that children need to work on to be successful at home, in school, and in the community. Participants will learn specific strategies they can use to facilitate the developmment of more effective social skills in children with ASD.

Presentation Objective: Participants will be able to identify common social deficits in individuals with ASD, differentiate between what their children "can't" and "won't" do, and list strategies they can use to actively teach and engage children in social skill development.

Presenters:

Jennifer Horton, LCSW-C

Jennnifer Horton is a clinical social worker with nine years of experience working with children and adolescents with autism. She currently co-leads two social skills groups at Kennedy Krieger Institute's Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD).

Stacy Booker, MS, CCC-SLP

Stacy Booker is a speech-language pathologist at Kennedy Krieger Institute's Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) who provides intensive speech therapy as part of an interdisciplinary team for children under the age of six in CARD's Achievements program. In addition, Ms. Booker co-leads one social skills group at CARD.
