Museum Access for All: Engaging Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders
This presentation will introduce parents, caregivers, and clinicians within the autism spectrum and sensory processing disorder community to the resources available at the Walters Art Museum and related cultural institutions in the greater Baltimore/DC area. In particular, this presentation will highlight the museum's Sensory Morning workshops, offered four times annually; through tactile exploration, self-guided tours, interactive stations, and designated spaces for sensory breaks, children and adults of all ages and abilities are invited to explore the worderful world of art!
Presenter: Ashley Hosler, Senior Education Coordinator of Family Programs at the Walters Art Museum
Ashley earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and her Master of Arts in Teaching from Maryland Institute College of Art. She has served children and families in a wide variety of educational capacities since 2007. From working intimately with school systems, private and non-profit organizations, and ultimately cultural institutions, Ashley has designed and implemented a diverse range of arts-based curriculum for all audiences. With a vested interest in art education as an opportunity for therapy, communication and socialization, she continues to seek opportunities to engage young visitors of the museum.
