Phi Beta Kappa and Honors Lecture "Language and Intentionality: Whose mind are you speaking?"

A linguistic anthropologist, Bambi Schieffelin is the author of The Give and Take of Everyday Life: Language Socialization of Kaluli Children and the coeditor of Language Ideologies: Practice and Theory and Consequences of Contact: Language Ideologies and Sociocultural Transformations. She has carried out fieldwork among the Bosavi people of Papua New Guinea; research projects with Sino-Vietnamese families and Haitian communities within the U.S.; and studies of computer-mediated communication among American youth. She is currently Collegiate Professor and Professor of Anthropology at New York University.
