MARGO CHRISTIE, AUTHOR OF "THESE DAYS": BURLESQUE, THE BLOCK AND BALTIMORE
Proud native daughter of Baltimore, Margo Christie recounts her memories of Baltimore's fabled Block, as she reads from the novel she wrote to honor her time working there in this not to be missed literary event at the Cabaret at Germano's.
Titled "These Days," Christie's prize-winning book is set in the 1970s, on the once-stylish but now-seedy stretch of East Baltimore Street once known to burlesque performers and sailors from around the world. It features a star-struck teenager stripper enamored of the glory days of burlesque, even though she knows too well that the glory is gone. It is a book of familiar places - including the working-class gin mills of Highlandtown - and thinly disguised faces, including her own.
Opening for Christie will be Rafael Alvarez, named Baltimore's Best Writer in 2014 by Baltimore Magazine and reading from his new collection of stories, "Tales from the Holy Land." Author, Actor and Man-about-town, Tony Hayes will emcee. Musical Accompaniment by Michael Joseph Harris of the Hot Club of Baltimore.
