The UMD Wind Orchestra opens its program with Arthur Meuelsman’s brilliant Symphony No. 4, a piece that went unrecognized until the Royal Symphonic Band of Belgian Guides recorded it 31 years after its premiere in 1939. The second half of the program features Three Comments on War, in which composer Jan Meyerowitz sets ancient battle music and folk songs into contemporary forms that powerfully convey the heroism and tragedy of war.
