Join us Sunday, September 17 from 2-4pm for a children's educational talk and craft. Master Gardener, Betty Walke will share the story of the butterfly life cycle and the migration of the monarchs. Children will learn to look for symmetry in nature will and apply it to art. Each child will make their own painted monarch to take home.

“Butterfly” Betty Walke is a Master Gardener with UME Baltimore City and Co-Chair of its POLIN committee which promotes pollinator education and best gardening practices.

Betty’s interest of butterflies began at an early age as she explored the fields around her suburban Baltimore home. As a budding young artist, she dutifully recorded her observations in pencil and crayon and pored over library books to correctly identify species. Butterfly imagery would continue to inspire her throughout her MICA art education and graphic communications career.

After a trip to the monarch butterfly migration sanctuaries in Central Mexico, Betty’s fascination for these winged wonders took off. In 2013, she received professional development certification from the Monarch Teacher Network.

Through engaging and creative presentations to both adults and children, she shares her butterfly knowledge and passion to broaden awareness for habitat conservation.
