HEARTSTRINGS is the immersive culmination of Tiffany Lange’s three-year residency at Creative Alliance, featuring creatures and puppets woven into a fantastical environment that will exist as a walkthrough children’s book meshed with a natural history museum.

A heartstring was once believed to be a nerve that sustained the heart. The characters included in Tiffany Lange’s exhibition, Heartstrings, were created to transmit impulses and sensations that achieve the same result. Her experimental sculptures and playful creatures emerge from personal nostalgia, explore identity, temptation, and values, and pluck at inner sensitivities. In the midst of today’s chaotic world, Heartstrings aims to transport the viewer—even if only for a moment—to an imaginative place.

Tiffany Lange is an artist, designer, and illustrator whose residency at Creative Alliance began in 2014. From puppetry to children’s book illustration, the intent of her art is to get her viewers to pause during the commotion of everyday life and guide the audience toward a lighthearted sensory experience. She employs imagery with rich hues, dynamic characters, and intriguing exaggerations of dimension that is introspective and whimsical to generate curiosity.
