The Preservation Society was founded in 1967 to stop the proposed extension of I-95 across the Inner Harbor, which led to both communities being listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Society continues to this day operating for charitable and educational purposes in the renewal and preservation of both Fell's Point and Federal Hill as areas of particular historical and architectural significance for the benefit, education and appreciation of the general public.
