Artist Fred Wilson in Conversation with MICA Curator-In-Residence George Ciscle

Artist Fred Wilson commemorates the 25th anniversary of his 1992 exhibition, "Mining the Museum," in a discussiong with MICA curator-in-residence George Ciscle. For the exhibition, Wilson went through the collection of the Maryland Historical Society and designed an installation within their galleries that illustrated the complicity of museum practices in inadvertently upholding racism. The exhibition was displayed in unexpected arrangements that raised questions about the museum’s representation of African-American and Native-American experiences. Mining the Museum remains an influential show in the field and was a seminal show for Wilson.
