Character, Mask, and Movement

Character, Mask, and Movement

Unlock the mystery of creating character through mask performance study. This master class will introduce participants to the body as a generator of crucial non-verbal cues which express character before a word of text is spoken, with or without a mask. To that end, we will explore four studies in mask performance: Neutral mask, Emotion masks, Larval masks, and Character masks. Neutral mask works to clarify the moving body as a truthful instrument; Emotion masks allow an easy entrance to observing how our bodies articulate what we feel; Larval masks emphasize how movement and geometric shape informs character; Character masks combine both emotive information and physical information to form fully articulated beings. Actors should be prepared to be on your feet for most of the class. Dress comfortably and prepared to move.
