Baltimore Chamber Jazz Society Presents Linda May Han Oh in Concert

he Baltimore Chamber Jazz Society concludes its 2016-2017 season with a performance by award-winning bassist Linda May Han Oh, on Sunday, April 30, 5 p.m., at the Baltimore Museum of Art. Oh will be joined by Troy Roberts on tenor sax, Matthew Stevens on guitar, and Dan Weiss on drums.

Born in Malaysia and raised in Perth, Western Australia, Oh represents the next generation of jazz. She is an active composer, double bassist, and electric bassist, composing music for various ensembles and short films and participating in the BMI Film Composers Workshop and Sundance Labs at Skywalker Ranch.

Oh has performed with musicians such as Joe Lovano, Vijay Iyer, and Kenny Barron. In 2010 Oh was nominated for the Jazz Journalist’s Awards for Up and Coming Artist of the Year, and she has received the award of No. 1 Acoustic Bass Rising Star in the Downbeat Critic’s Poll. Her understated yet highly sophisticated style is this phenomenal bassist's singular mark that characterizes her all her music including her third album Sun Pictures. She is now a member of Pat Metheny’s most recent quartet project.

Oh’s fourth and highly anticipated album, Walk Against Wind, will be released in April 2017 on Biophilia Records. With its interest in preserving the environment by reducing plastic production, Biophilia will create a 20-panel, origami-inspired design for her album. Inside the vibrant paper medium (FSC certified and printed using plant-based inks) is a unique download code but also a QR code for the album. More information is available at lindamayhanoh.bandcamp.com/ and biophiliarecords.com.

The performance takes place at the BMA at 10 Art Museum Drive, Baltimore, MD 21218. Tickets are $35 general admission, $33 seniors and BMA members, and $10 students. Tickets can be purchased in advance at http://www.baltimorechamberjazz.org, or at the door. More information is also available at (410) 385-5888 or on the BCJS page on Facebook.
