House Beautiful Lectures: Modern Art at Evergreen

House Beautiful Lectures: Modern Art at Evergreen

Evergreen's John and Alice Garrett, collectors and patrons of art, established life-long friendships with several of the artists they supported, including Miguel Covarrubias, Herbert Haseltine, and Léon Bakst. While their collection reflects the couple’s years spent abroad, a result of John’s diplomatic postings, it was Alice’s ardent enthusiasm for the arts that was the driving force in its formation and development. Art historian Bodil Ottesen shares insights on Evergreen’s twentieth-century art collection as it relates to Alice’s evolution from novice collector to seasoned connoisseur.

Bodil Ottesen is a lecturer and adjunct faculty member in art history at several Baltimore institutions, including the Maryland Institute College of Art and the Johns Hopkins University Odyssey Program. She is a contributing author to Evergreen’s forthcoming publication Evergreen: The Garrett Family, Collectors and Connoisseurs.

Ticket includes a reception with wine and light hors d’oeuvres. Advance registration is requested.
