Arts Every Day: 10th Anniversary Celebration

ARTS EVERYDAY CELEBRATES 10 YEARS OF STUDENT LEARNING THROUGH ART Two-Day Anniversary Celebration Set for March 10-11, 2017

Arts Every Day (AED) celebrates 10 years of bringing art to Baltimore City Public Schools with a two-day anniversary event at the Baltimore Design School on March 10-11, 2017. The celebration kicks off with an Awards Reception to recognize the individuals and organizations who have made an impact on the arts in Baltimore City Schools over the last ten years. The second day will feature a day-long symposium, Envision. Create. Transform: Baltimore Youth Through the Arts which will convene a cross-section of teachers, administrators and artists to discuss the state of arts education in Baltimore and address how we can prepare for the next generation of creative thinkers in the city.

In 2005, Baltimore was chosen as one of eight cities in the country to be part of the Ford Foundation’s Arts Integration and Education Reform Initiative with the goal of identifying the best way to bring dynamic arts education programming to Baltimore’s middle schools. Today, Arts Every Day works to empower teachers as leaders, provides an essential link between Baltimore City Public Schools and Baltimore City arts and culture and serves as a leading voice of advocacy at the city and state levels. Each year Arts Every Day provides over $185,000 in funding and professional development support to 40 Baltimore City Schools, 80% of which are Title 1 Schools serving high-need, low-income youth. That funding supports over 250 arts programs, impacting over 19,000 students, 1,200 educators, and promotes over 500 teaching artists and arts and cultural programs.

"There is a growing body of research that demonstrates the positive impact that the arts have on the development of children. Ten years ago, Arts Every Day was established to enhance the arts in Baltimore City public schools. Over this decade, the quality and quantity of the arts in the schools has grown significantly, in large part because of the leadership and work of Arts Every Day. As we celebrate our 10th Anniversary, we are excited to be convening our increasing number of partners in and out of the schools to find new ways to support Baltimore City youth through the Arts."

– Fred Lazarus IV, President Emeritus of the Maryland Institute College of Art, Arts Every Day Board Member and Co-Chair of the Anniversary Event Committee

To recognize the progress made, AED will hold an Awards Reception from 6-8pm on March 10th, 2017 to honor educators, artists, philanthropists, cultural organizations and public servants who have made a significant impact in the field of arts education over the past ten years.
