Baltimore Chamber Jazz Society Presents the Arturo O'Farrill Quintet
The Baltimore Chamber Jazz Society kicks off its 2016-2017 season at the Baltimore Museum of Art, on Sunday, November 13, 2015, at 5 p.m., with a performance by the celebrated Arturo O’Farrill Quintet. More information is available online at http://www.baltimorechamberjazz.org.
Pianist/composer/educator O’Farrill is a modern day “jazz ambassador,” who fought for political normalization between the United States and Cuba through cultural diplomacy long before the recent normalization of diplomatic relations with Cuba. He is a two-time Grammy Award Winner and winner of the Latin Jazz USA Outstanding Achievement Award in 2015. As the founder and artistic director of the non-profit The Afro Latin Jazz Alliance, O’Farrill has been on the ground in Cuba repairing the rupture by promoting a cultural conversation (Motéma.com). His music has been described as transitioning seamlessly between pan-Latin fusion and American hard bop, incorporating swing and seating technical agility.
Tickets for The Arturo O’Farrill Quintet concert are $40 general admission, $38 seniors and BMA members, and $10 students. Tickets can be purchased for the entire five-concert series for $150. Tickets can be purchased in advance at http://www.baltimorechamberjazz.org, or at the door. More information is also available at (410) 385-5888 or on the BCJS page on Facebook.
