Artist Alison Saar in Conversation with MICA's Curator-In-Residence George Ciscle

Alison Saar was born in Los Angeles, California. She studied art and art history at Scripps College and received an MFA from the Otis Art Institute. Saar received the United States Artist Fellowship in 2012 and has also been awarded the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship and two NEA Fellowships and has exhibited at many galleries and museums, including The Contemporary , the Hirshhorn Museum and Watts Towers Arts Center. Her art is represented in the collections of the Whitney Museum , Baltimore Museum of Art, MoMA, and the Met.

George Ciscle will discuss Saar’s work beginning with The Contemporary’s 1993 Cat sh Dreamin’ that investigated how the artist worked with speci c neighborhoods to celebrate their unique histories and ending with her recent survey of prints at the National Museum of Women in the Arts focused on her interest in the African Diaspora.
