Rubys Spotlight: A Reading With 2015 Literary Arts Grantees

Rubys Spotlight: A Reading With 2015 Literary Arts Grantees

The Rubys Artist Project Grant program enables individual artists in the Baltimore region to create innovative new works in all disciplines. This event will feature the 2015 literary arts grantees, reading from their award-winning projects:

James Arthur will read from Entanglement, a poetry collection that is diverse in style and subject matter, but is broadly speaking a manuscript about love.

Dale Beran will read from his graphic novel in progress about the Baltimore City school system and the lives of its students, which incorporates historical research, interviews and illustrations.

Ericka Blount Danois will read from her screenplay, a science fiction story that explores the generational division, cyclical repetition and martyrdom, especially as they relate to historical figures.

Jen Grow will read from My Father’s House, a series of photographs with personal essays that explore the issue of loss - of home, of identity and of history.

Courtney Sender will read from her novel The God of Longing, which follows three characters from each of the Abrahamic religions 40 years into their future and 4,000 years into their families’ pasts.

The Rubys Artist Project Grants were conceived and initiated with start-up funding from the Robert W. Deutsch Foundation and are a program of the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance.
