Beginning on Monday, Oct. 10, schooners from throughout the region will dock in Baltimore as they prepare for the start of the 27th annual Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race (GCBSR). Sailing to promote awareness of the Chesapeake Bay’s maritime heritage and to encourage preservation and improvement of its natural resources, the schooners and the crews will sail from Baltimore to Portsmouth, Va. The public is invited to tour the schooners, which will be docked at Baltimore Marine Centers’ Lighthouse Point Marina, attend the “Salute to the Schooners” at Fort McHenry on Tuesday, Oct. 11 and view the Parade of Sail on Wednesday, Oct. 12.
